Poll Workers play an essential role in elections and in our democracy. They are trusted community members who assist the in-person voting experience throughout county. The Elections Department is continually recruiting Poll Workers for upcoming elections. Please join us for this rewarding experience! Participation in the Poll Worker Program benefits the entire community and fosters a sense of pride in the community.

Adult Poll Workers

Qualifications

To become an Election Worker in San Benito County, you must be:

18 years of age or older (unless participating in the Student Election Worker Program)
A U.S. citizen and registered to vote in California OR a Legal Permanent Resident
Must be available to work three days leading up to, including Election Day from 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. or until all of the closing procedures have been completed.
Must be available to attend a mandatory training class.

Roles and Responsibilities

Attend mandatory poll worker training
Assist with opening/closing the Vote Center
Assist with processing voters throughout the day
Practice our department's three S's: Safe.Simple.Secure

Student Poll Workers

Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years of age by the time of the upcoming election
Must be attending a public or private secondary education institution (High School)
Good academic standing: G.P.A. of 2.5 or greater
Must have all 6-7 teacher's consent
Parent and/or guardian consent

Student Poll Worker Roles & Responsibilities

Attend mandatory poll worker training
Assist with opening/closing the Vote Center
Assist with processing voters throughout the day
