Prior to returning your Vote By Mail ballot be sure to sign Your envelope.

Sign your name by the red  X, provide a contact phone number and date on the back of the return envelope.

If your signature is missing or does not match your voter registration card, your ballot cannot be counted. 

There are multiple options on how to return your ballot:

• By mail, remember no postage is necessary. Voters should take into consideration the delivery times which vary from 3 to 10 days. If returning the week of the election, voters may want to consider returning the ballot in person. 

• At any of the 6 official Drop Box locations in San Benito County

• At any of the 4 Vote Centers in San Benito County

• At any drop box or vote center in California (county will forward to San Benito County)

If your ballot is postmarked by Election Day and received within 7 days by our Department we will process, verify and count that ballot (EC, § 3020(b)).

If you returned your Vote by Mail ballot without signing the return envelope we will mail you a document called the "Unsigned Ballot Statement" asking for your signature.

Your signature is required to verify your identity and process the ballot.

Download the Unsigned Ballot Statement and visit our office by date stated on form.

• Drop Boxes are available to voters beginning 29 days before and on Election Day

• Drop Boxes close at 8 PM on Election Day

• Drop Boxes are bolted securely into cement or chained in place

• Drop Boxes are designed with security features identified in state regulations. Cemented drop boxes have 24 hour, 7 days a week video surveillance.

• Drop Boxes have an exterior coating to reduce permanent graffiti or damage

• Ballots are picked up regularly by two Election Workers

• The County works with law enforcement agencies, cities, local stakeholders, and community-based organizations to monitor and safeguard all boxes

We understand as years go by your signature is bound to change. If the signature on your Vote by Mail return envelope doesn't match what is in our voter registration database we will notify you by mail and ask you complete and return the Signature Verification Statement.
